Perry is Perry is a Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback) her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. However, her parents did not permit her to perform until she was an adult, for fear of the negative effects that stress could be able to have on their daughter. Perry said she felt timid to perform at the age of 16, but she began performing in theater classes at Northwestern University as a way to make friends after transferring to the university from Boston University. When she graduated, Perry relocated to New York to search for TV work, landing a few roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led her back to California where she found acting work. Perry starred with her mother in The Other Place at Broadway the previous year. Kevin McKidd, her father Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie alongside her in 2015. Perry was a part of nine episodes of ABC's show The Family. In 2017, she had a minor role on the ABC political drama Scandal which starred her father. The actress also portrayed her older Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - an CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. The role was offered to her in an audition that was open despite being a fan of the role.
